Student Book Review: Fish in a Tree by Lynda Mullaly Hunt, as reviewed by Aisha Mitha (Year 8)

This week, Aisha Mitha (Year 8) reviews Fish in a Tree by Lynda Mullaly Hunt.

The author of this book is Lynda Mullay Hunt, one of the other books she has written is Shouting at the Rain. Fish in a tree was published in 2015 on the 5th of February. It’s genre is a book that is based on a true story. Fish in a tree is about a girl who is different from every other kid and she is always getting into trouble for everything that she does. One day a relief teacher comes to her class to teach them for a few months. He helps her realise something about her that she never knew. I would recommend this book to boys and girls ages 10-14. This book is set in a school and the main characters home and the timing of the story was set around the 1970s. The main character, Ally, is. Avery kind girl and is full of potential. She gets bullied a lot though and has trouble finding good friends. She also doesn’t do too well in school but does well in maths which shows that she does try. A main theme in this story is to not doubt yourself and not compare yourself to others. The author wants us to learn that we can’t put ourselves down because we are capable of so much when we don’t even know it. I liked this book because it had a good mood and it was a happy story.
